Forum Help

The PASC Discussion Forum is built using an industry standard bulletin-board software package called phpBB. You can look up documentation for phpBB on several other websites for more in depth information about using this software.

Introduction

This discussion forum is integrated into the PASC website, and if you log into the PASC site, it will automatically log you in to the forum as well. This is needed because we store membership records in our database, but the phpBB forum has its own authentication system. We need to be able to add custom permissions to specific forum sections based on your committee membership, so in order for you to have the level of access you would expect to have to the forum, you must log into the main website before entering the forum. Also, you can log in on the forum, but it will not log you into the main PASC website, as it uses its own authentication system, and does not properly support the features that ours does, however, this should not be a problem.

Membership and Registration

The forum consists of several forum sections, (a.k.a. Topics), which contain individual conversations, (a.k.a. Threads), which contain individual messages (a.k.a. posts, postings). PASC Members are granted access to a private forum area with several more topics of discussion, and their questions are given priority over those of non-members. Non-members will only have access to the public discussions.

When you become a PASC member, a forum account is automatically created for you, and when you log into this website, you are automatically logged into the forum, and given full access. Non-members must create an account by clicking the 'Register' link which appears near the top middle of the page when attempting to view the forum. This will require verification to ensure that spammers and automated programs are not able to create a massive amount of accounts and post all over the public forum area. An email will be sent to the email address entered during registration to confirm and activate the account. Once this activation email is received, one can begin posting comments or questions onto the public areas of the PASC Discussion forums.

For more information about basic usage of the discussion forum, you can consult the phpBB Website for detailed documentation.
